Home Elevation Assistance

In order to assist communities and homeowners with elevating their homes above the base flood elevation, the DEP has instituted measures to streamline the permitting process. The DEP has adopted new flood hazard area rules and no longer requires a permit or fee for elevating a home above the flood hazard area design flood elevation if the elevation meets the requirements of the permit-by-rule (N.J.A.C. 7:13-7.1  & N.J.A.C. 7:13-7.2(a)3), including 14-day prior notice to the DEP. The DEP has designated one person (Helen Owens at (609) 292-2178, helen.owens@dep.state.nj.us) as a dedicated point of contact to meet with residents and local officials to answer questions on elevating structures and regarding permit requirements for associated activities,
